DETAILS:
On Thursday, June 2, 2022 at approximately 5:47 pm, the Washington County Sheriff's Department dispatched deputies, first responders and the ambulance service to the area of Garriott Road, just south of Mt. Eden Road, in Gibson Township, in reference to a single vehicle collision with injuries.
Evidence at the scene indicated that the driver of a 1978 Oldsmobile was traveling southbound on Garriott Road, when the driver ran off the right (west) side of the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole, which caused the vehicle to flip and roll over several times, coming to a rest upside down, in a water filled creek. First responders were able to roll the vehicle upright in the creek in order to extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was identified as David Gater, age 58 of Scottsburg / Little York, Indiana.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
