TYPE OF OCCURRENCE: Fatal Motorcycle wreck.

DEPARTMENTS INVOLVED: Washington County Sheriff's Department, Washington County EMS, Blue River Fire Department.

DETAILS: On September 22, 2023, At approximately 7:55 PM, deputies and emergency services personnel responded to the area of Borden Rd just south of Vincennes Trail in reference to a motorcycle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies observed a black 2005 Honda motorcycle on the east side of the roadway in a ditch, and a male subject on the west side of the road. Preliminary investigation indicated that the Honda, driven by James Stivers, age 47 of Salem, was traveling south on Borden Rd when he impacted a deer in the roadway, was ejected off the motorcycle and came to a rest on the west side of the roadway.

Stivers was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem by Washington County EMS where he was later pronounced deceased.

The crash is still under investigation and is being investigated by Deputy Maxwell Mitchell, who was assisted by Sgt. Matthew Hein, and Deputy Dustin Pridemore.
