NEWS RELEASE

TYPE_OF OCCURRENCE: 2 Vehicle Accident Causing Injury

DATE OF OCCURRENCE: Wednesday November 23, 2022

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCES: 600 block of Shorts Corner Rd, Pekin (Washington County IN.)

DETAILS:

On Wednesday, November 23,2022 at approximately 10:01 a.m., units responded to a two-vehicle head on collision on Shorts Corner Rd just west of Daisy Line Rd in Pekin, IN. Evidence and statements gathered at the scene indicate that a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was travelling west on Shorts Corner Rd when an uninvolved vehicle, that was travelling east on Shorts Corner Rd, came into the Jeep's lane of travel, causing the Jeep to swerve right, off of the north side of the roadway and then overcorrect back onto the roadway. As the Jeep came back onto the roadway it travelled into the cast bound, on-coming lane striking a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban head-on.

The driver and passenger of the Jeep had to be extricated by the Salem Fire Department and were transported by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries. The driver was identified as 38-year-old male, Michael Brandon Spicer of New Salisbury, IN. The passenger was 24-year-old female, Raven Nicole Cooper of Salem, IN. Also in the vehicle were 2 rear passengers, a 2-year old female and a 2-month-old female, both were transported to St Vincent Hospital, Salem, by Washington County EMS.

The driver of the Suburban, 35-year-old female, Rachel Lee of Pekin,IN, was treated at the scene and transported to St Vincent Hospital by Washington County EMS. Passengers of the Suburban consisted of 3 juveniles, male- aged 10 months, 2 females ages 2 and 10. Passengers were situated in the rear seats of the vehicle and were transported to St Vincent Hospital Salem by Washington County EMS.

This crash is still under investigation.
