Sheriff's Department Participates in Red Ribbon Week
11/04/2022
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October, in the United States. Red Ribbon Week is the largest and longest-running annual campaign dedicated to drug prevention. This year's event took place last week.
Sheriff Brent Miller, Captain Joe Keltner and K-9 Officer Paul Reyling spent two days visiting with students from East Washington Elementary School, Bradie Shrum Elementary School and West Washington Elementary School. Approximately 1,800 color changing cups were passed out to the students. The cups included a pencil, a silicone bracelet, a sticker and a temporary tattoo and each of the items contained an anti-drug message.
Last year, Sheriff Miller partnered with Law Enforcement Partners to produce a Sheriff's Department calendar. Local businesses sponsored the calendars and the proceeds from the calendars were used to buy the items given to the students. If you see a Sheriff's Department calendar hanging in a local business, thank the business for their support and partnership with the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Miller said educating our families and students about drug-abuse prevention is an important tool for keeping our children, families and communities safe, healthy and drug-free.
