Driving during Deer Season
11/19/2025
Fall and early winter mark peak deer activity, which means it's especially important to stay alert while driving. Sheriff Brent Miller urges drivers to use extra caution during dusk-to-dawn travel, due to a surge in daily car-vs-deer accidents. Deer are more active during these low-light hours, and increased movement during mating season makes collisions more common.
• Slow down in wooded or rural areas
• Use high beams when you can.
• Don't swerve, brake and stay in your lane.
• Deer travel in groups, so expect more than one.
• Extra caution at dawn & dusk.
• If you hit a deer, pull over safely and call authorities.
