On Tuesday morning, October 1, at 6:32 AM Deputies of the Washington County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to State Rd 56 near the intersection of Possum Hollow Road in reference to a single vehicle accident involving a deer.
Upon arrival, Deputies observed a 2021 Toyota Corolla in the middle of the roadway on State Rd 56. The driver was identified as Heather Meredith, age 26, of Salem. The drivers statement and evidence at the scene indicated Meredith was west bound on State Rd 56 when a deer came out into her lane from the south side of the roadway. Meredith applied her brakes but was unable to stop and impacted the deer. Meredith stated that she was 32 weeks pregnant.
Meredith was transported to Baptist Health Floyd for complaints of pain by Washington County EMS.
