UPDATE FROM SHERIFF MILLER ON DEPUTY SHORTAGE

03/25/2024

UPDATE FROM SHERIFF BRENT MILLER:
Following our recent announcement regarding the suspension of 3rd shift law enforcement coverage due to staffing shortages, I am pleased to inform you of a significant development.
Effective immediately, the Indiana State Police have agreed to step in and provide coverage during the overnight hours. This collaboration ensures continued public safety for the residents of Washington County during the crucial 11p.m. to 7a.m. period.
Furthermore, I am pleased to announce that the Washington County Council has taken action to address the issue of officer retention by approving an $8,000 pay raise for our deputies. This adjustment brings us closer to parity with surrounding law enforcement agencies and acknowledges the dedication and hard work of our officers.
I want to express my gratitude to the Indiana State Police for their support and partnership during this challenging time. Additionally, I appreciate the County Council for their responsiveness in addressing the critical need for competitive compensation for our deputies.
Moving forward, my team and I remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Washington County. We will continue to work closely with county officials and the community to implement sustainable solutions that uphold the highest standards of law enforcement excellence.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these important changes together.
